Gem & Phoenix

UPDATE: Gem and Phoenix have now gone to lovely new home together and are being spoilt. We've had some fabulous photos of them settling in their new home. Lots of thanks to their new family xx

Updated November 18th 2015

We have two beautiful Siberians looking for their retirement home together. Gem and Phoenix are sweethearts and have been together since they were kittens. They are now both 7 years old and are ready for their retirement home and next adventure.

Gem is a gorgeous Seal Torbie Lynx Point and Phoenix is a handsome Golden Classic Tabby and White. They have been vet checked, neutered, microchipped and boosters done. Both are very sweet and loving. Gem is the most chatty and Phoenix loves giving you head butts, he is a gentle boy. This is where Akiro gets it from. They are the proud parents of Akiro, our handsome Show Star and first UK bred Siberian to achieve his TICA Lifetime Achievement Award.

We are not sure if they are suitable for allergy sufferers, if your allergy affects your breathing then probably not. Plus it would be hard on Gem and Phoenix to settle to then have to be return so please bear this in mind when contacting us. Please contact us at 01270569358, evenings or weekends; or email kittens@alexandrite-siberian-kittens.co.uk for more information or to visit.

This is Phoenix

Thank you to everyone who sent us condolences last week. My grandad will be missed by all his family and friends. He was a very kind loving grandad, dad and great grandad. He's been a big part of so many of our lives and we were all lucky to have had him with us for so long.

It's been very hard and I'm not sure it's all truly sinking in yet so at the moment I'm only going to write a short post and post photos of kittens available. If you would like any further information Andy is helping out with calls but he's only available in an evening and at weekend, 01270569358.

2015 Siberian Kittens and Adults

A short update we are happy to announce the arrival of our first kittens of 2015. Both mums and babies are doing great. Gem had 4 boys, colours are 1 Cream, 2 Brown and White Tabbies and a Red/Cream Lynx Point (colour point). Cataleya had 3 girls and 2 boys. The colours are a Silver Shaded girl, 2 Black Smoke girls (1 with White) and a Black and White Boy, and a Silver Tabby Boy. We don't have photos at the moment but hope to have them in a couple of weeks. The blog will be updated with any available kittens.

The kittens won't be ready to go to new homes until middle to end of July. We are not able to offer allergy visits at this time.

Retired Adults

Pantera has now found her retirement home and is settling in well, enchanting everyone she meets. We are very happy for her but miss her head bumps and distinctive meow.

We will have more Siberian adults this year as we retire some of our older girls and boys. Please keep checking the blog for updates.

Kitten News

Gosh where did March go?!

With the start of the year being so busy with kittens and kittens off to new homes we were in need of a much needed bit of quiet and time to rest. Looking after kittens and mums takes a lot of work so even though we missed the kittens it gave Andy and I chance to relax. We say relax but there are always things to do here. Andy has been very busy with his work and I'm now working on my own new adventure which was hindered when I came down with a rotten cold and sinus trouble. Therefore if you have tried to ring in the day we might not have picked up due to this. I've also either been too poorly to sort and reply to emails or been trying to catch up with my new venture so our apologies for not replying. We've also had no kittens so there hasn't been a lot to say.

Kitten News

We do expect kittens this month but haven't taken deposits yet as in the past both girls have had small litters and there's nothing worse than taking lots of deposits to then have to disappoint families waiting for kittens. So we wanted to wait until babies have arrived safely which won't be long now.

The Future...

We are still deciding what the future of Alexandrite Siberians will be and with this in mind we will be looking for homes for a few of our older breeding cats this year. We have had to face facts that I'm no better health wise and the stress and work that goes with breeding Siberians is often just contributing to my poor health and when I don't feel well all the time something that I used to love doesn't feel the same. That isn't to say I don't love the kittens it's just all the work and amount of time it takes. I used to be able to help with it all, raise kittens, look after them, emails, paperwork, showing, as well as a demanding high stress full time job but now I can't so we have to accept that. Therefore this year is a kinda break or make situation and depending on how it goes we will then decide what we do next year. Before the gossip mill goes into overdrive we have not yet stopped breeding Siberians.

Adult Siberians

This week two of our girls have been spayed, Pantera, Silver and White (6 years old) and Meescha, Brown Tortie and White (3 years old). Pantera is very sweet and very talkative. Meescha is very shy and wouldn't suit a busy household with children. Both girls are recovering well and Pantera will be available first and Meescha at a later stage. Please email kittens@alexandrite-siberian-kittens.co.uk for more details or call 01270 569358 in an evening.

Kitten Visits and Allergy Visits

We will only arrange kitten visits once we know which kittens are available and at the earliest after their first vaccine at 9-10 weeks of age.

With regard to allergy visits these will only be arranged if we have kittens available after 14 weeks of age. To reduce risks to our cats we cannot at this time offer allergy sittings. We also have two other pet breeds here, Fudge our senior Birman, and Nog and Pepper, both American Curls so anyone with bad allergies or asthma will react.

Alexandrite Kitten News

UPDATE - Little Bluebell has now been reserved and gone to her new home, 6th February.

We only have available one kitten left, a beautiful Blue Classic and White Girl called Little Bluebell (her pet name). Little Bluebell is very sweet just like her mum and has had to contend with only boisterous brothers for siblings but she takes it all in her stride. She loves to play and enjoys a cuddle too. Little Bluebell is the last of our kittens for awhile and we are making plans for our next kittens but these won't be ready to go now until the beginning of summer. The blog will be updated once we have more news.

Little Bluebell will be ready to go to her new home middle of February. You couldn't ask for a more perfect Valentines gift!

Photo of Little Bluebell taken by Andy yesterday, there are more photos of her on the Available Kittens page here on the blog.

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year!

We were busy with all the usual family events at Christmas as well as organising kitten collections. Jomo's kittens have gone off to their new homes and are settling in.

It's still very busy here and we decided to take a few days off emails so if you haven't heard back from us we will be catching up next week. There are a lot of emails to get through but we will get back to everyone it just might take a few days.

We had quite a close call with arranging kitten collections recently as a result we will be introducing a Kitten Visit Information sheet. Please can we point out what might seem as something small to you, visiting a breeder's home with an infectious disease could have devastating repercussions for the breeder and their family of cats and kittens. We don't want full medical histories that's unreasonable and totally not what we are asking for but it is very important to make us aware of any conditions your existing pet is being treated for and there are some conditions which can be passed from humans to pets. The consequences for anyone breeding cats could be not only extremely costly but heartbreaking. We sometimes have younger kittens which aren't available for kitten visits but because all our kittens are raised indoor and socialised daily they are at risk to anything being brought into the our home. We also have an elderly Birman Fudge who is 15 this year and again he is at risk. On a personal note I had a thyroidectomy in 2006 as a result if there's a bug, cold, virus or stomach upset going around I pick it up and with another blood clotting issue I have I cannot take many medications so please for my sake and health if you are not well please rearrange any visits.

Enough doom and gloom and to show off our beautiful kittens who will be ready to go mid February, here's a photo of Anuta's and Hendrix cheeky bunch of cute kittens. We didn't think Anuta had warmed to Hendrix when she visited him but clearly his charms had won out and to our surprise Anuta was pregnant. Anuta is a super mum and her kittens are very cute. There are 3 girls and 1 boy all Classic patterns like their parents.

From left to right Silver (high tarnish) girl, Silver (high tarnish) girl, Blue boy and Brown girl. The two silver girls are under assessment at the moment and maybe available at a later stage. The blue boy and brown girl, who is very like Pippin so is called Pipsqueak are available first. We will have details of Prisca's kittens soon who are also ready to go end of February. Then a much needed rest for Andy and I!
