In Loving Memory of Alexandrite Calix and Alexandrite Mercury

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I write this blog and it is one I wish I didn't have to do.

At the beginning of February we had the very sad news from the people who had adopted Calix's aka Meka that in a very tragic accident w
here he had got caught up in the blind cord and had unfortunately passed away. This was a great shock to us all as Calix was only just 4 months old and had his whole life ahead of him. Kittens get up to all types of trouble but I would like for anyone who is thinking of getting a kitten to be careful with blind cords and if you do have blinds, tie the cord up if you can.

All we can do now is remember Calix as he was as a kitten growing up, always up to mischief but looking so handsome at all times. His life was short but he had so much love in that short time.
Here are a few words from Chris and John, and we really think this is how he should be remembered
He is certainly feeling his feet now and has us both wrapped around his little "paw". He is turning into a beautiful little kitten and has stolen our hearts. He sleeps on my pillow most nights and has also taken to laying with the dog (as you can see from the photo). As I am typing this email he is sat at the side of me watching my fingers on the keyboard. He is a little darling. I have never heard a cat purr so much as he does and he loves lots of strokes and cuddles.

On Friday we had the awful news that Mercury aka Hermes had been involved in a road traffic accident and he had passed away. This was another shock for us as Mercury had just reached a year old. None of us can believe it has happened, he was such a character in his new home from the stories Marina told us he got up too.

A few words from Marina
Most of all we miss his cheerful greeting chirp and all his accounts of his heroics and antics he used to ‘tell us’ when he was coming home, running for a cuddle.

Both these boys were so sweet and loved by all who met them. Even though they had very short times with us all, they were spoilt rotten and added so much to each of our lives.

I am sure they are both with Kahlan and Dizzee now, playing and up to mischief and watching over us. We will meet again, watch over us and you are both so deeply and trully missed.

Night, night sweet Mercury and Calix xxxx

  1. so sorry to hear this news Jo how tragic! my thoughts are with you and the families x

  2. Thanks Clare, both were such a shock to us, very sad news and not the news any of us want to hear x

  3. oh so sad, kittens get into of mine got caught up in a dangly toy..freeked out, but lucky I was there...dont use them any sorry for your loss.

  4. So sorry to read about Calyx and Mercury - its very very sad. Our thoughts are with you all at this time - I oddly remember having a discussion with a potential kitten buyer about cords on blinds - as she had some - and told her that those needed to be secured - as kittens are both inquisitive and adventurous - and things we don't ourselves count as dangers - may be to them.

So so sad, and we send our hugs to you all xoxox

  5. So sorry to hear this sad news Jo and Andy. It is so tragic when such a beautiful life ends so soon. We recently found out that one of our kittens from Indiana's litter last year died before he reached 1 year of age too- he fell out a 3rd story window and was fatally wounded despite the good vet treatment he got. I have been so sad about it, it was truely heart breaking to hear and I cried for weeks. So I know what you're going through and my thoughts are with you both.
    Xx Melanie

  6. Very sad Jo for yourself and the wonderful owners who obviously adored their little treasures.
We expect kittens to enjoy long and happy lives and this must have been a terrible shock for you. So sorry . x

  7. Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments, both Andy and I appreciate it at this sad time. I keep looking at their photos and still can't believe it is true.
Sorry to hear of your loss too, Melanie. It is very hard and one of the sadness times a breeder has to deal with.
    Thank you all again xx

  8. Thank you all for your kind words and for thinking of our little Mercury at these hard times. Chris and John - so sorry for your loss - we know how you must feel.
As for us, 'gutted' does not even begin to describe it ...
